Renowned Nollywood actress and producer, Mary Njoku, has expressed deep concern over the quality and authenticity of medications in Nigeria, following a troubling experience with food poisoning on a movie set.
Taking to Instagram, Njoku shared her ordeal, highlighting the inefficacy of a locally purchased medication. She revealed that after buying Imodium — a drug commonly used to treat diarrhea — from a well-known pharmacy chain in Nigeria, her symptoms failed to improve even after three days of use.
In contrast, she said she felt better within minutes after taking the same medication sourced from abroad, which was given to her by her husband.
Njoku, a mother of three, called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to urgently investigate the presence of counterfeit or substandard drugs in the Nigerian market to safeguard public health.
