The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the release of Sheikh Obhakhoboh, the Chief Imam of Uromi, who was kidnapped on July 7, 2025, in the Angle 80 area of Uromi.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, the cleric was released unharmed following intense and sustained pressure mounted on his abductors. He has since been safely reunited with his family.
Yamu disclosed that the police launched a swift operation immediately after the incident was reported at the Uromi Divisional Headquarters on July 8. Tactical teams, working in collaboration with members of a local vigilance group, were deployed to track down the kidnappers.
Commending the successful effort, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, praised the operatives for their dedication and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to share credible information that would aid ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.
