The Zone 5 Police Command has commenced strict enforcement of the ban on unauthorized use of sirens, tinted glass permits, and other related vehicle regulations.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Zone 5, which covers Edo and Delta States, confirmed the development in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tijani Momoh, in Abuja.
The exercise, according to the Command, aligns with directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and applies to all vehicles with tinted glasses—whether factory-fitted or aftermarket.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the zone, Salma-Dogo Garba, noted that the enforcement would also extend to bans on revolving lights, Police SPY number plates, unallocated official plates, and unregistered vehicles.
Motorists with tinted windows are advised to register their vehicles at www.possap.gov.ng and proceed to their state command headquarters for physical verification. Those unwilling to obtain a permit must remove or replace tinted glasses with transparent ones, in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
Garba emphasized that field operatives must conduct the exercise with professionalism, free from harassment or extortion. Any officer found guilty of misconduct will be sanctioned alongside their supervising officer.
He urged motorists to cooperate with the Police and report any unprofessional conduct to the nearest station, the command’s Complaint Response Units (CRUs), or the ZPPRO.
NAN also reports that the IGP had earlier directed nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit requirement beginning Thursday, under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004. The move is aimed at strengthening national security and curbing criminal activity.
