West Ham Sack Graham Potter After Poor Start to 2025/26 Season

West Ham United have dismissed head coach Graham Potter following a run of disappointing results that stretched from the latter half of last season into the early stages of the 2025/26 campaign.

In a statement released on Saturday, the club said performances “have not matched expectations” and confirmed that the Board of Directors felt a change was necessary to improve the team’s Premier League position “as soon as possible.”

Potter’s exit also includes the departure of his entire backroom staff, with Assistant Coach Bruno Saltor, First-Team Coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, Lead Goalkeeper Coach Casper Ankergren, and Goalkeeper Coach Linus Kandolin all leaving the London Stadium with immediate effect.

“The Board would like to thank Graham and his coaching staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future,” the statement added. The club also confirmed that the search for a new manager is already underway, though no further updates will be provided until a successor is appointed.

Potter, who was appointed less than a year ago, had come under intense pressure after a poor run left West Ham in the lower half of the Premier League.

The former Brighton boss first rose to prominence in Sweden with Östersunds FK, leading the club from the fourth division to the Europa League. He later built his reputation at Brighton & Hove Albion with a progressive style of play and strong player development, which earned him a high-profile move to Chelsea in 2022. However, his Stamford Bridge stint lasted just seven months before he was dismissed following inconsistent results despite heavy investment in the squad.
