WAEC Warns: Accurate Registration Key to Successful Computer-Based Exams

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Anambra has stressed that accurate candidate registration is the foundation for a smooth transition to Computer-Based Examinations (CBE).

Mr. Tunde Ajibade, WAEC Branch Controller, made the statement in Awka during a strategic meeting with the Ministry of Education and key education stakeholders.

The meeting focused on preparations for the Federal Government’s planned adoption of CBE in the 2025/2026 examinations and brought together school principals, teachers, private school owners, cyber café operators, and other education leaders.

Ajibade cautioned that errors during registration could lead to serious consequences, including the loss of admission opportunities. He highlighted the importance of proper training and sensitization for registration officers, noting that capturing candidates’ faces correctly was critical since entry into exam halls would require facial verification.

“An error such as uploading the wrong image renders a candidate ineligible. A successful examination begins with proper registration. While some mistakes can be corrected, others cannot,” Ajibade warned.

He also expressed concern about the growing number of amendment cases linked to registration errors, urging education stakeholders to adopt stricter measures to ensure accuracy.
