WAEC Debunks False Rumours of 2025 WASSCE Cancellation

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has refuted widespread online claims that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled.

In an official press release shared via its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, WAEC described the reports as “false and mischievous,” urging the public to disregard them entirely.

The Council clarified that the rumour—which alleged the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, cancelled all exam papers due to rampant malpractice—has no basis in fact.

Labeling the report as an attempt to discredit its operations and cause unnecessary panic among candidates and stakeholders, WAEC warned the public to beware of false information being spread by mischief makers.

The Council also advised that only its official social media channels and accredited media outlets should be trusted for accurate and up-to-date information.
