At least seven children lost their lives and 26 others were injured after part of a government-run school’s roof and walls collapsed in western India.
The incident occurred in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan state, approximately 322 kilometers from the state capital, Jaipur. According to local police officer Kishore, the single-storey school building was in session with about 60 students, teachers, and staff present when the tragedy struck.
“The structure gave way while students were attending their classes,” Kishore confirmed.
Local villagers rushed to the scene and helped rescue many of the injured children, who were quickly taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Reports indicate the building was in a dilapidated state, and multiple complaints had previously been lodged regarding its poor condition.
