Popular skitmaker Zicsaloma has shared his views on financial independence, advising people to set firm financial boundaries—even with family members—if they truly want to break free from poverty.
In a video posted online, the entertainer said that anyone determined to escape poverty must be prepared to make tough decisions. “If you know you want to come out of poverty, you need to be financially heartless even to your direct family,” he stated.
Zicsaloma explained that such an approach does not mean being wicked or uncaring, but rather making deliberate choices to break the cycle of poverty. Recounting his personal experience, he said he had always aspired to be financially stable but faced repeated setbacks.
“I did a lot of businesses while growing up, but most of them failed because of family,” he said, suggesting that financial pressure from relatives affected his ability to save and reinvest.
The skitmaker further noted that family entitlement to personal income is a common challenge in African societies. According to him, even when individuals are working to build a better future, constant financial demands can derail long-term goals.
“It is very okay to be financially heartless even to your friends and family so that you can save and break that circle,” he said. “They may hate you for it, but trust me, it is for your own good.”
Zicsaloma concluded by encouraging people to prioritize financial discipline and long-term stability over pleasing others.
