Tinubu, PDP Applaud Gov. Okpebholo’s Road Infrastructure Revolution in Edo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the infrastructural achievements of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, describing the ongoing construction of the state’s first-ever flyover bridge as a landmark stride in urban development and modernization.

Speaking through the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, President Tinubu commended the governor’s foresight in initiating the one-kilometre flyover at Ikpoba Hill, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, noting that the project would significantly ease traffic congestion and strengthen the urban network of Benin City.

The President lauded Okpebholo’s remarkable performance within a short time in office, affirming that he had raised the bar of governance in Edo State. He added that the governor’s bold investment in road and bridge infrastructure reflects the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s progressive development agenda.

“This is a 24-span structure, with each span measuring 20 meters—making it a full kilometre of bridgework. The pace and quality of construction are commendable. Edo is witnessing a first, and I believe more of such projects will soon reshape Benin City’s traffic system,” Umahi stated on behalf of the President.

He further noted that state-led projects often demonstrate higher efficiency than some federal contracts, emphasizing the need for stricter accountability to ensure timely delivery and value for money.

“I also commend Governor Okpebholo for adopting concrete technology. Roads built with reinforced concrete last between 50 and 100 years. This is the kind of durability Nigeria needs to end the cycle of constant reconstruction,” Umahi added.

Describing the governor as “a man of courage, destiny, and vision,” President Tinubu praised Okpebholo’s proactive interventions on federal road corridors across the state, highlighting his commitment to the welfare of Edo people.

In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, crediting the President’s encouragement as a key driving force behind his administration’s early successes.

“We are succeeding because of the President’s support. His spirit of progressive leadership inspires us. I cannot rest until I’ve done something meaningful for my people. We will continue to initiate projects that directly improve the lives of Edo citizens,” the governor said.

He acknowledged that the state’s infrastructure had suffered years of neglect but assured that his administration was determined to rebuild Edo with renewed vigor and strategic planning.

In a rare show of bipartisanship, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Sowunmi also commended Governor Okpebholo’s performance, noting that good governance transcends political affiliations.

“When Edo people are happy, Nigerians are happy. True development must be pursued state by state if we must transform this nation,” Sowunmi remarked, underscoring unity, progress, and the promise of a brighter Edo.
