Tinubu Mourns Victims of Lagos Island Fire, Commends First Responders

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to the families of victims of Tuesday’s fire outbreak at the Afriland Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which claimed seven lives.

According to PUNCH Online, the victims — including four staff members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) — died in hospitals after being evacuated from the high-rise building. The fire also affected offices of FIRS, United Capital, and the United Bank for Africa (UBA), located in the tower.

In a statement signed on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commiserated with Afriland Properties Limited, United Capital, FIRS, and UBA over the tragedy. He also extended sympathy to the injured, who are currently receiving treatment.

“The President extends his condolences to the management and staff of Afriland Properties Limited, the FIRS, UBA, and particularly those who lost loved ones in the inferno, and the injured who are currently receiving medical attention,” the statement read in part.

Tinubu praised the efforts of emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, medical teams, and volunteers, for their swift intervention during the evacuation. He urged greater caution, training, and alertness to prevent future tragedies.

The President prayed for the repose of the departed souls and a speedy recovery for the injured.

DTOWNCRIER Online gathered that doctors are still battling to save the lives of other victims. The incident was one of two separate fire outbreaks that struck Lagos Island’s business district on Tuesday, injuring many and destroying goods worth millions of naira.
