President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their resilience in the fight against insurgency and criminality, noting that their sacrifices form the bedrock of peace and development in the country.
Speaking during the plenary on Peace and Stability at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing the root causes of insecurity through strengthened security institutions and ongoing economic reforms.
The President emphasized inclusivity, diversity, and the rule of law as Nigeria’s greatest assets in its pursuit of lasting peace and stability. He also cited peace pacts recently achieved in Congo as proof that innovative approaches—linking mediation with economic investment—can deliver meaningful results.
While expressing concern over the persistence of conflicts across Africa, Tinubu urged global partners to prioritize trade and investment-driven collaborations over charity and handouts. He further called for reforms in the United Nations system, particularly the Security Council, to better reflect Africa’s aspirations in global governance.
