President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 31 non-career and 34 career ambassadors to various countries and international missions, including the United Nations.
The list, released on Friday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, shows that a total of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners have been assigned to diplomatic posts across the world.
Among the prominent appointments, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was posted as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff Abdulrahman Dambazau was appointed ambassador to China.
Former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu was posted to Spain.
The Nigerian Senate had earlier confirmed the ambassadors-designate in December last year.
Also on the list is former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmud Yakubu, who was posted to Qatar, while former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode was assigned to Germany.
Political commentator Reno Omokri was appointed ambassador to Mexico.
Other notable postings include former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Olufemi Pedro to Australia; former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole to Canada; and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodele Oke, to France.
Others include Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Senator Ita Enang to South Africa, and former Governor of Oyo Statedaughter Fatima Ajimobi to Austria.
The list also includes 34 career diplomats assigned to various missions. Among them are Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d’Ivoire, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, and Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India.
According to the statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu.
Similarly, France has granted agrément for Ambassador Ayodele Oke, clearing the way for their formal deployment to their respective diplomatic posts.
