The Senate has commenced its annual long recess after adjourning plenary sessions until Tuesday, September 23, 2025.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio made the announcement during a brief plenary, following the adoption of a motion moved by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
Despite the break, Akpabio reminded lawmakers that it is not a complete holiday. He emphasized that senators are expected to continue their oversight responsibilities across ministries, departments, and agencies — particularly focusing on projects within their constituencies.
He specifically tasked all standing and ad hoc committees to use the two-month recess to finalize their assignments. This, he said, would ensure smoother legislative processes upon resumption.
Each committee is expected to submit a comprehensive report on its oversight activities when the Senate reconvenes.
