The Rivers State Executive Council has revoked a N134 billion contract awarded by the previous administration for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat complex in Port Harcourt.
The contract, which was approved under former Sole Administrator Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd), was terminated during the Council’s meeting held today. The Council also directed the contractor to refund the N20 billion mobilisation fee already paid.
In addition, the Council approved the establishment of a six-man committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to assess and recommend plans for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state. The centres are expected to support the smooth conduct of external examinations.
The flood committee, also led by the Deputy Governor, was further instructed to take immediate measures to tackle flooding in the state. Residents were advised to desist from blocking drainage channels to avoid worsening the situation.
