Speaking during his maiden press briefing at the university, Prof. Adetimirin outlined his vision of positioning the institution as one of the best in Nigeria, with aspirations for international recognition through cutting-edge research, infrastructural development, and sustainable practices.

According to him, “My commitment is to drive the transformation of this university in a holistic way—technologically, industrially, and economically—while ensuring global relevance.”

Driving Growth and Global Recognition

Prof. Adetimirin emphasized the need to diversify and grow the university’s revenue base to achieve international rankings. He promised to strengthen research output, encourage staff publications in globally recognized journals, and enhance infrastructure for teaching and learning.

He further revealed plans to embed sustainability into the university’s operations through reuse, recycling, and regeneration initiatives, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. His goal, he said, is to make Edo State University one of the most sustainable campuses globally.

Focus on Welfare and Student Support

The Vice Chancellor also assured both staff and students of improved welfare packages. He pledged to provide mental health support, scholarships, and career development opportunities that will prepare students for the global workforce.

“My vision is not only about recognition,” he stated, “but also about creating an environment where staff and students thrive, are happy, and are equipped for success.”

Appreciation to the State Government

Prof. Adetimirin expressed gratitude to Governor Monday Okpebholo for appointing him as the substantive Vice Chancellor and commended the Edo State Government for equipping the university with “fantastic facilities” within a short period.

With his appointment, stakeholders and the academic community are hopeful that Edo State University will continue its rise as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing institutions of higher learning.
