President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

D’Tigress, under the leadership of Coach Rena Wakama, secured their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title after defeating Mali in a thrilling final on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville. The victory also extended D’Tigress’ unbeaten run in the tournament to an entire decade, solidifying their status as the undisputed queens of African women’s basketball.

President Tinubu, in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, commended the team for their exceptional performance, discipline, and the pride they have brought to the nation.

Demonstrating his administration’s support for the team, the President had earlier dispatched a high-level presidential delegation to Abidjan ahead of the final match. The delegation was led by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission.

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also expressed admiration for the team’s achievement, describing it as a moment of pride and inspiration for young Nigerian girls and athletes across the continent.
