Presidency Backs Military’s Denial of Alleged Coup Attempt

The Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, has reaffirmed that the Presidency stands firmly by the Nigerian military’s position denying any recent coup attempt in the country.

Recall that on October 18, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) dismissed as “false and misleading” reports circulating online which claimed that activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary were cancelled due to an alleged coup plot.

The speculation gained traction following the recent dismissal of the Service Chiefs by President Tinubu, a move that fueled further public conjecture.

Speaking during a live interview on TVC News on Sunday night, Dare emphasized that the Presidency maintains confidence in the military’s clarification, stressing that there is no truth to the coup rumours.

“The Presidency is aligned with the Defence Headquarters. There was no coup attempt, and the rumours are baseless,” Dare stated.

He urged Nigerians to disregard unfounded reports and continue to support the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national stability and security.
