Portable Orders Fans to Deal with Impostor Performing His Songs

Nigerian singer Portable has sparked controversy after urging fans to physically confront a man he claims is impersonating him on the live-show circuit.

The warning came after videos surfaced online showing a lookalike performing Portable’s songs and allegedly charging fees for appearances.

Portable’s Warning

In a blunt social media post, Portable told followers that if they see anyone imitating his style or performing his music, they should “beat him up yourselves.” However, he cautioned fans not to tag or involve him directly if violence erupts.

Emphasizing the value of his brand, the artiste declared:

“I collect 10 million plus for my shows. Nobody should be using my name to collect money.”

He also alleged that the impersonator had already been paid up to N250,000 for a performance—an amount he dismissed as far below his rate.

How the Row Started

The controversy began when clips of the lookalike performing circulated online, sparking debate over whether he had been booked for shows under Portable’s name.

Fans loyal to the singer argue that such acts not only rob artistes of income but also harm their reputation in the industry. Portable, meanwhile, insisted that while he remains committed to attending legitimate bookings, impostors must be stopped.

Divided Reactions

Public response to Portable’s message has been sharply split.

  • larrycrypt01 mocked the situation, writing: “In a free world you can be anyone, it’s Portable of all people you wannabe.”
  • AbiolaBL cautioned: “Until them bottle him head because them think say na him look alike.”
  • iwologbon added humor: “We don’t know if Portable is the one talking here or his lookalike, so I sit and watch while I confirm.”

Some fans defended his outrage, while others urged him to adopt a calmer, lawful approach instead of encouraging violence.
