People Attacking Tinubu’s Tax Reforms Don’t Understand Them — Gov. Alex Otti

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s new tax reform laws, stating that many critics lack a proper understanding of the policy framework.

Otti expressed strong support for the reforms, noting that several aspects of the new tax structure reflect fiscal arguments he advanced nearly a decade ago concerning Nigeria’s economic direction.

“Almost 10 years ago, I wrote about the fiscal side of things. When I read the new tax reform law, I saw many of those arguments reflected in it. I thank Prof. Oyedele. When people attack him, they don’t understand,” the governor said.

The reforms are being driven by the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, and have generated mixed reactions nationwide.

While some stakeholders have raised concerns over the potential impact of the new measures, Otti maintained that the framework is built on sound fiscal principles aimed at improving revenue generation and strengthening Nigeria’s economic foundation.

By referencing his earlier writings on fiscal policy, the governor suggested that the current reforms align with long-standing proposals designed to reposition the country’s tax system and enhance overall economic stability.
