The All Progressives Congress (APC) has maintained its dominance in Lagos State, sweeping all 20 chairmanship positions in the just-concluded local government elections. According to the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), APC also clinched 375 out of the 376 councillorship seats across the state.
The only exception came from Yaba’s Ward D, where the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured the lone councillorship seat.
On Saturday, registered voters across Lagos State went to the polls to elect new leaders for the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The state has over seven million registered voters.

LASIEC confirmed that 15 out of Nigeria’s 19 registered political parties fielded candidates for the elections.
The 20 LGAs include: Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Mushin, Ojo, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Surulere.
The LCDAs are Orile Agege, Ifelodun, Agbado-Oke Odo, Ayobo-Ipaja, Egbe-Idimu, Mosan-Okunola, Oriade, Apapa Iganmu, Olorunda, Badagry West, Eredo, Ikosi-Ejirin, Ikoyi-Obalende, Iru/Victoria Island, Lekki, Ojokoro, Onigbongbo, Ojodu, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Ijede, Imota, Ikorodu North, Ikorodu West, Agboyi-Ketu, Ikosi-Isheri, Lagos Island East, Yaba, Odi-Olowo, Iba, Oto-Awori, Ejigbo, Isolo, Bariga, Coker-Aguda, and Itire-Ikate.

Despite minor complaints of voter intimidation and the late arrival of election materials in some areas, no significant incidents of violence were reported.
LASIEC Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Phillips Okikiolu-Ighile, addressed concerns about low voter turnout, noting that the perception might not reflect reality. “Some voters left immediately after casting their votes, and in many locations, the process was quick and smooth,” she said.

She acknowledged that a few polling units in remote areas were difficult to access, but stressed that all materials eventually reached their destinations. The commission, she added, was able to resolve logistical challenges in affected zones.
With these results, the APC has once again affirmed its political stronghold over Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital and a key stronghold of President Bola Tinubu, who served as governor of the state from 1999 to 2007.
