Oyo Acting Governor Launches EU-Funded Project to Tackle Poverty and Promote Inclusion

Oyo State Acting Governor, Adebayo Lawal, has inaugurated the European Union-funded Supporting Sustainable Social Protection in Nigeria (SUSI) project, aimed at boosting inclusion and tackling poverty.

The initiative, unveiled at the Executive Council Chambers in Ibadan, is being implemented in partnership with UNICEF and the International Labour Organization (ILO). It seeks to strengthen Nigeria’s social safety net to better respond to shocks, reduce poverty, and promote equity across the state.

Highlighting Oyo’s past interventions during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lawal recalled food distribution to 200,000 households, ₦500 million in loans, ₦1 billion for food security, and subsidized transportation initiatives.

He further pledged to institutionalize social protection policies through legal reforms, improved coordination, and stronger collaborations with development partners.
