The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 505,906 Nigerians have completed pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, just five days after the launch of its online portal.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this known during a roadshow in Abuja to mark the official commencement of the 2025 CVR. Represented by National Commissioner, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Yakubu described the impressive turnout as evidence of citizens’ confidence in Nigeria’s democracy and INEC’s commitment to credible elections.
“The CVR is a vital process in our determination to strengthen the electoral system and deepen democratic governance,” Yakubu said.
He explained that while the online pre-registration phase is currently ongoing, in-person registration is scheduled to begin next week across all INEC Local Government and State Offices nationwide.
The INEC Chairman urged eligible citizens—especially first-time voters who have just turned 18, and those seeking to update or transfer their voter records—to participate fully in the exercise. He also called on political parties, civil society groups, the media, and other stakeholders to mobilize awareness and encourage wider participation.

Meanwhile, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, reassured Nigerians of the Commission’s readiness to commence the physical registration phase in all its offices nationwide.
