Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in 19 Commissioners as well as Chairmen and Members of various Boards and Commissions, charging them to uphold integrity and shun corrupt practices.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Government House in Benin City, with top dignitaries in attendance, including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi (SAN); Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Musa Ikilor; Chief of Staff, Alhaji Gani Audu; serving Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, and other senior government officials.
Governor Okpebholo stressed that all appointments were based strictly on merit, describing the positions as a call to serve rather than political patronage.
“Your nominations did not come as a reward or patronage, but as a call to serve the people of Edo State,” he said. “This administration came into office on the promise of practical governance to touch the lives of our people directly.”
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to service delivery and tangible results, rather than propaganda, urging the appointees to be diligent and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.
“Our focus is not on propaganda, but on service delivery and tangible results that can be felt in every community across our state,” he emphasized.
Okpebholo issued a stern warning against corruption, reminding the new officials that their positions are not opportunities for personal gain.
“While I congratulate you on your deserved elevation, I must warn that your appointment is not for personal enrichment. You are not here for money-making, but for service, for sacrifice, and for a better life for Edo people. This administration has zero tolerance for corruption,” he stated.
He urged them to demonstrate discipline, teamwork, and loyalty to the people of Edo State, noting that their actions—not intentions—would define their legacy.
The Governor also reaffirmed his vision to rebuild and reposition Edo State for sustainable development.
“Today marks another important step in our journey to rebuild and reposition Edo State for development. Together, let us prove that government can work for the people. Let us write a new chapter where service comes before self and show that a new Edo has truly risen,” he declared.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Hon. Ebea Festus Odianonsen expressed gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve. He pledged their full support for the administration’s developmental agenda and commitment to delivering on its promises.
“We thank the Governor for finding us worthy to serve. We pledge to support your developmental agenda and ensure that all your promises to the people of Edo State and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are fully realised,” Odianonsen said.
He assured that the new Commissioners and board members would work tirelessly to help the Governor achieve effective governance and political stability in the state.
