Okpebholo Leads APC Rally in Ugo as Hundreds Defect Ahead of 2027 Elections

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Thursday led a large delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders to Ugo in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, where hundreds of new members were formally received into the party in a major show of strength, unity and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally, described by party leaders as one of the biggest political gatherings in the area in recent years, further underscored the APC’s growing influence in Edo South and reinforced the state’s alignment with the leadership and political direction of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking to a jubilant crowd, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed the party’s loyalty to President Tinubu, declaring that the APC in Edo State remained firmly committed to supporting his re-election bid. He linked this support to what he described as tangible progress in welfare, security and infrastructure across the state.

The governor also took a swipe at the opposition, expressing confidence in the APC’s resilience and pointing to the performance of his administration as proof that the trust placed in him by voters was yielding results.

Addressing concerns raised by residents, Okpebholo acknowledged the poor condition of roads leading into the community and assured the people that the issue was receiving urgent attention. He pledged that noticeable improvements would be evident within the next year.

Reiterating Edo State’s commitment to the federal leadership, the governor promised massive support for President Tinubu in the next presidential election, stating that the party was determined to deliver the votes pledged to the President.

At the event, the State Deputy Chairman of the APC, Sylvester Aigbobo, officially welcomed the new members into the party. The decampees were led by Ambassador Westley Asoro, a moment that drew loud applause from supporters and further strengthened the party’s grassroots presence in the area.

The rally was attended by several prominent party figures, including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilo, Esq; former Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu; and the APC National Women Leader, among other leaders and stakeholders.

Thursday’s event marked a significant political moment for the APC in Edo South, highlighting intensified grassroots mobilisation, strengthened party structures and a clear declaration of loyalty to President Tinubu as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
