Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed profound gratitude to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, for presenting him with a royal birthday gift in honour of his recent celebration.
The symbolic presentation took place on Monday, September 29, at the Governor’s Office in Benin City. Representing the revered monarch was his eldest daughter, Princess (Mrs) Iku Aimiuwu Ewuare, accompanied by Mr. Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council.

Receiving the gift, Governor Okpebholo described the moment as both humbling and historic. He reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the throne and commitment to the development of Edo State.
“I am short of words that my father, the Oba of Benin, has sent me this gift. I am deeply honoured and delighted. In my community, there is a saying that if you wash your hands well, you can dine with elders. That is what I see today. I will not take this recognition for granted. Tell the Oba, my father, that we are his children, committed to him and the progress of Edo State. His prayers are working for us and the people of our state,” the Governor said.

Mr. Irabor explained that the visit was at the directive of the Oba, noting:
“Your Excellency, we are here on the instruction of His Majesty, the great Oba of Benin Kingdom, to present this royal gift. The eldest child of His Majesty, Princess Iku Aimiuwu Ewuare, has been directed to make the presentation as a token of the Oba’s blessings on the occasion of your birthday.”
Presenting the gift, Princess Aimiuwu conveyed her father’s blessings and goodwill:
“On behalf of my father, I present to you this birthday gift. Happy birthday once again. We wish you long life and prosperity.”
The event highlights the enduring influence of the Benin Monarchy in state affairs and the mutual respect between traditional institutions and the Edo State Government.
