NYSC Urges Employers to Support Corps Members with Transport Refunds and Accommodation

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to corps employers to show greater support for corps members by either visiting the orientation camp to pick them up or refunding their transportation costs when they fail to do so.

This call was made by the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, during the 2025 NYSC Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Bauchi on Thursday. He emphasized that such gestures would significantly ease the burden on corps members and enhance their morale.

Speaking through Agatha Banki, Director of the Northeast Area Office 1, Bauchi, Nafiu also urged employers to provide decent accommodation or monetary compensation in lieu of housing. He noted that a comfortable living condition would encourage corps members to offer better and more effective service.

He described the annual workshop as a vital platform for strengthening collaboration between NYSC officials and corps employers. It allows for the exchange of ideas aimed at improving the scheme’s effectiveness.

Nafiu further outlined the responsibilities of corps employers, which include offering accommodation, transportation allowances, healthcare access equal to that of regular staff, and maintaining a conducive work environment.
