The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ireland Chapter, has called on the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action to secure the release of 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Secondary School in Kebbi State.

The council expressed deep distress over the incident, which also saw the school’s Principal and Deputy reportedly killed by armed bandits during the attack.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Department, the NYCN urged the government to intensify ongoing rescue operations and deploy every necessary resource to ensure the safe recovery of the kidnapped students.

The group emphasized that Nigerian children deserve a secure learning environment, noting that school safety must remain a top national priority. It warned that the latest abduction highlights the escalating security crisis in the country, particularly the growing trend of school-targeted attacks.

According to the NYCN, incidents of this nature threaten the future of young Nigerians and further undermine public confidence in the nation’s education system.

The council also appealed to federal authorities to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, intelligence units, and local communities to fast-track the rescue efforts. It urged the government to adopt stronger, long-term security strategies to prevent future attacks on schools.
