NECO Releases 2025 SSCE Results: 60% of Candidates Pass with Five Credits, Including English and Mathematics

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2025 Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE), with 818,492 candidates — representing 60.26% — recording five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

In addition, 1,144,496 candidates secured five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics. A total of 1,367,310 candidates, made up of 680,292 males and 678,047 females, sat for the examination nationwide. The results were released 54 days after the last paper was conducted.

Announcing the outcome at NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, revealed that 38 schools across 13 states were involved in whole-school cheating. He noted that the schools will be invited for discussions before sanctions are applied.

Prof. Wushishi further disclosed that 3,878 candidates were caught in various forms of malpractice, a reduction compared to 10,094 cases recorded last year. Additionally, nine supervisors — three from Rivers, one from Niger, three from the FCT, one from Kano, and one from Osun — were indicted for aiding malpractice, poor supervision, assault, lateness, and insubordination. They have been recommended for blacklisting.

The Registrar also reported that communal clashes in Adamawa State disrupted the examination between July 7 and 25, affecting eight schools, 559 students, 13 subjects, and 29 papers. NECO, he said, is in talks with the state government to reconduct the examinations for affected schools, as their results remain incomplete.
