NAWOJ Edo Chapter Seeks Stronger Collaboration with State Ministry on Women and Vulnerable Groups

The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has called for closer collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to advance issues affecting women and vulnerable populations.

The appeal was made by NAWOJ Edo Chairperson, Comrade Habibah Sam, during a courtesy visit to the ministry in Benin City on Tuesday, accompanied by members of the association’s newly elected Executive Council. Sam used the visit to formally introduce the new leadership team and reaffirm NAWOJ’s commitment to professionalism, advocacy, and service.

Comrade Sam congratulated the Honourable Commissioner, Euginia Abdallah, on her appointment and lauded the ministry’s impactful interventions, including the recent rescue of a mentally challenged woman’s baby and the subsequent rehabilitation efforts, describing the initiative as a strong display of compassion and social responsibility.

She highlighted NAWOJ’s mandate to promote the welfare of women journalists, amplify women’s voices, and advance gender-sensitive reporting. Sam also expressed the association’s commitment to contributing to policies and programmes that address the needs of women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

With International Women’s Day approaching, she noted her optimism about partnering with the ministry on initiatives that celebrate women’s achievements and tackle prevailing challenges.

In response, the Permanent Secretary, Joy Ihensekhe, representing the Commissioner, commended NAWOJ’s dedication to women-related causes and assured the delegation of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate in achieving shared objectives.
