NAOWA Marks International Women’s Day with Health, Fitness and Empowerment Activities in Edo

The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 4 Brigade Chapter, has commemorated this year’s International Women’s Day with a series of activities focused on promoting health awareness, physical fitness, and women empowerment within military communities in Edo State.

The event took place at the NAOWA Skills Acquisition Centre, Ekehuan Military Cantonment in Benin City, attracting a large turnout of barrack women and underscoring their commitment to personal wellbeing and community development.

In a statement, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, said the celebration highlights the vital role women play in strengthening families and contributing to national development.

Speaking at the event, the Zonal Coordinator of NAOWA, 4 Brigade Chapter, Mariam Balogun, described the occasion as significant. She noted that this year’s theme, “Give to Gain: For All Women and Girls – Rights, Equality and Empowerment,” reflects the importance of unity, resilience, and self-development among women.

Also addressing participants, the Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, commended NAOWA members for their unwavering support to their families and their contributions to nation-building. He emphasized the need to sustain empowerment initiatives for women in military communities.

The Special Guest of Honour, Eyitoyosi Shonibare, reaffirmed NAOWA’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of military families and promoting community development. She also encouraged women to prioritize both their physical and mental health.

Activities at the event included a road walk, group fitness exercises, Zumba sessions, drama presentations, cultural dances, and a medical awareness programme featuring training on first aid, fire prevention, and emergency response.
