The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned following allegations of certificate forgery. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the resignation in a statement on Tuesday night.
Nnaji came under scrutiny after PREMIUM TIMES reported that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), disowned the Bachelor of Science degree he claimed to have obtained. The university clarified that while Nnaji was admitted in 1981, he did not complete his studies and was never awarded a certificate.
Further investigations revealed that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) could not authenticate the national service certificate he presented.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu accepted Nnaji’s resignation, which came through a letter in which the former minister thanked the President for the opportunity to serve and described himself as a target of political blackmail.
Nnaji was appointed in August 2023. President Tinubu expressed gratitude for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours.
