Lagos Government Denies Involvement in FESTAC Demolitions

The Lagos State Government has distanced itself from the recent demolition of structures on Sixth Avenue, FESTAC Town.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, made this known on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja. He clarified that the state government was not responsible for the exercise and reiterated that due process is always followed before any structure is brought down.

Olumide explained that the demolition process typically involves issuing all necessary notices and engaging affected stakeholders to ensure transparency and fairness.

He advised all agencies, including federal bodies, to seek clearance from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before carrying out any demolition activities within the state.

“We want to assure residents that the Lagos State Government is committed to fairness, due process and the protection of property rights. Any demolition done without proper authorisation does not represent the position of this administration,” Olumide stated.
