The Labour Party caucus in the Senate has called on Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to publicly apologise to Nigerians for his recent comment directed at the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Governor Okpebholo, during a public event on Friday, stated that Peter Obi must obtain security clearance from him before visiting Edo State, citing concerns over alleged violence during Obi’s previous visit.
In a joint statement signed by Senators Victor Umeh, Ireti Kingibe, Ezea Okey, and Tony Nwoye, the lawmakers condemned the governor’s remark, describing it as “executive rascality and abuse of office.”
The senators stressed that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to move freely across the country, referencing Section 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
