Kwara South Stakeholders Slam Lawmakers Over Poor Representation

Stakeholders in the Kwara South Senatorial District have faulted their federal lawmakers, accusing them of poor and ineffective representation since their election into the National Assembly.

The criticism came on Monday during a strategic consultation meeting in Ilorin, organized by the Kwara South Development Initiative (KSDI) with the theme “Reawakening the Giant.”

Those indicted include Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Lola Ashiru (Kwara South), Hon. Tijani Kayode Ismail (Oyun/Offa/Ifelodun), and Hon. Abdulraheem Olawuyi Ajuloopin (Ekiti/Irepodun/Oke-Éro/Isin). Stakeholders alleged that the legislators had failed to initiate meaningful projects or impact the lives of their constituents, a lapse they said had stalled the district’s growth.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, the chairman of the Igbomina Traditional Council and Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Mohammed Bolaji Alebiosu, accused the lawmakers of neglect.
“Can anyone see the impact of any member of the National Assembly representing us? They have failed to touch the lives of their constituents. If you invite them for religious or community development purposes, they will not turn up,” he said, warning that voters would repay them at the polls in 2027.

Convener of KSDI, Dr. Johnson Adewumi, echoed the concerns, noting that despite producing five senators and several House members since 1999, the district had little to show.
“Our citizens have chaired several committees in both chambers of the National Assembly with no tangible contribution. We cannot find any project of value in the entire Kwara South. This is unacceptable,” he said.

State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Sunday Fagbemi, also admitted that the district’s lawmakers had fallen short of expectations. He assured that the APC would no longer field non-performing candidates, stressing that future aspirants would be thoroughly screened before elections.
