Kwara Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Quality Healthcare at the Grassroots

The Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to repositioning and delivering quality healthcare services at the grassroots through sustained investments in the primary health system.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Press Secretary, Bukola Abdulganiyu, Elelu made the pledge while receiving executives of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, stakeholders from Oke-Ero Local Government, and the Head of Department, Health, in her office.

She commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for demonstrating strong political will in ensuring healthcare accessibility, particularly in underserved rural communities.

“The AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration has consistently shown dedication to bringing quality healthcare closer to the people. With huge investments in revitalising the primary health sector, citizens, especially in rural areas, now have better access to essential services,” Elelu said.

She revealed that more than 70 Primary Health Care centres have been renovated and equipped across the state, with several others undergoing phased upgrades. Facilities, she added, have been strengthened with essential medical equipment, solar-powered boreholes, and alternative power supplies to ensure round-the-clock service delivery.

The agency boss also noted the government’s prioritisation of regular drug supply, improved staffing, and enhanced human resources through the recruitment and continuous training of nurses, midwives, and other health professionals.

To boost efficiency, Elelu explained that digital innovations had been deployed to strengthen health information systems for better planning, monitoring, and accountability.

“Nurses and midwives are the backbone of our health system. The Kwara State Government recognises your resilience and sacrifices. This administration will continue to invest in infrastructure, welfare, training, and innovations to empower you to deliver optimal services. We are building a sustainable healthcare system that leaves no community behind,” she assured.

She further highlighted the state’s collaboration with development partners, including UNICEF and WHO, noting that these partnerships had expanded immunisation coverage, improved maternal and child health, and strengthened the fight against preventable diseases such as polio, malaria, and measles.
