Iran Seizes Foreign Tanker in Sea of Oman Over Fuel Smuggling Allegations

Iranian authorities have seized a foreign oil tanker in the Sea of Oman on charges of fuel smuggling, according to judicial officials.

The head of the judiciary in southern Hormozgan province confirmed that the vessel was intercepted after it was found to have incomplete legal documents related to its cargo. Initial reports indicate that the ship was carrying approximately two million litres of smuggled fuel.

Officials stated that laboratory tests and a thorough review of the ship’s documents are underway to verify the nature and legality of the cargo.

This latest seizure follows a similar incident months ago, when Iran’s Revolutionary Guards intercepted two Tanzanian-flagged tankers in the Gulf, allegedly carrying 1.5 million litres of diesel.
