Idahosa Decries Substandard Work at Radisson Hotel Benin, Demands Compliance with Safety Standards

Edo State Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, has expressed disappointment over the quality of ongoing construction work at the internationally branded Radisson Hotel Benin, urging the architectural firm handling the project to strictly adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards.

Idahosa, who led a government delegation on an inspection tour of the five-storey hotel building, emphasized that the state government’s intervention was not a witch hunt but a necessary step to ensure that global best practices and safety regulations were being followed.

Representing Governor Monday Okpebholo during the oversight visit, the Deputy Governor was conducted around the facility by project officials. He noted that the documentation and procedures surrounding the acquisition and execution of the project under the previous administration were unclear.

“The documents and processes used by the last administration in acquiring this property and engaging vendors and consultants on the project are not transparent,” Idahosa observed.

He, however, appealed for calm, assuring that the Edo State House of Assembly would review the matter to address any irregularities through appropriate legal channels.

Also speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency, Igabali Imoesili—who represented the Commissioner for Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, Dr. Lucky Eseigbe—highlighted inconsistencies in the ownership records of the facility, as well as deviations from approved construction specifications.

In response, Olumide Taiwo, the Resident Architect of Radisson Hotel Benin, stated that the team was working under an international brand known for its strict adherence to quality and safety standards, assuring that necessary corrections would be made where required.
