Governor Peter Mbah Dumps PDP for APC

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant political shift in the state.

Mbah announced his decision in a televised address on Tuesday, describing the move as a “bold choice” driven by the need to reshape Enugu’s political landscape.

“Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” he declared.

“This concerns our values, how we organize ourselves politically, and how we secure the future of our project and our people. Leadership sometimes demands painful decisions in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny.”

The governor explained that joining the APC aligns with his vision to reorganise Enugu’s politics and drive development across the state.

The defection follows a wave of political realignments within the state government. On Monday, all members of the Enugu State Executive Council announced their defection to the APC.

Governor Mbah’s Senior Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, confirmed the development in a video shared on social media, showing commissioners and top aides openly pledging their allegiance to the ruling party.

“Enugu State Cabinet Members join the APC with full chest along with Governor PN Mbah,” Nwomeh captioned the video.

In the footage, the officials chanted praises for President Bola Tinubu and pledged their loyalty to the APC, declaring:

“We are now in APC; tomorrow is here; it is APC all the way; it is Jagaban all the way; from top to bottom.”

This mass defection represents a historic moment for Enugu State, which has been a stronghold of the PDP since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
