Governor Okpebholo Rewards Team Edo with ₦10m for Outstanding National Youth Games Performance

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has applauded Team Edo for their remarkable outing at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, where they finished third overall.

Welcoming the victorious athletes to Government House, Benin City, alongside his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the Governor commended their resilience and dedication, noting that they had brought pride and honour to the State.

In recognition of their feat, Governor Okpebholo announced a cash reward of ₦10 million for the athletes and urged them to remain focused and determined to achieve greater success in future competitions.

“I congratulate our team for putting in their best and securing third position with 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze medals. This is a laudable achievement, but I challenge you to aim higher and go for first place in the next edition. Edo deserves to lead, and with commitment and discipline, we will get there,” the Governor stated.

He assured that the State Government would continue to support sports development, while encouraging the athletes to display stronger dedication and discipline.

Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Mr. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, also praised the Governor for prioritizing athletes’ welfare, which he said played a crucial role in Team Edo’s unprecedented success.

“For the first time, Team Edo returned with 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze medals. This historic achievement was made possible by the Governor’s unwavering support,” Enabulele noted while presenting the second runner-up trophy to the Governor.

The 9th National Youth Games, which featured contingents from across the country, saw Team Edo emerge as one of the top-performing teams, reaffirming the State’s growing influence in national sports.
