Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has inaugurated a door-to-door campaign team in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon. Joe Ikpea, ahead of the August 16, 2025, Senatorial election in Edo Central Senatorial District.
Speaking during the inauguration held over the weekend in Uromi, the Governor urged youths in the region to mobilize support for Ikpea and steer clear of opposition party candidates. He emphasized that the upcoming senatorial election would serve as the first major test of the political relevance of Edo youth.
“This election is a critical opportunity to show our strength and unity,” Okpebholo said. “Edo is witnessing real progress under this administration. As our people embrace light, darkness is disappearing.”
The Governor expressed confidence in APC’s chances, declaring the party’s intention to win all five local government areas in Edo Central. He stressed that the APC is not leaving anything to chance in its preparations.
“This is the time to take the APC message from door to door. We are targeting 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election,” he stated. “The opposition failed Edo people during their time in power. They left us with bad roads, no schools, no electricity, and no basic infrastructure. But today, under my leadership, the difference is clear.”
Also speaking at the event, APC leader in Edo Central Senatorial District, Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe (rtd), called on youths to fully back Hon. Joe Ikpea, urging them to ensure victory for the party in the August 16 poll.
The campaign inauguration marks a significant push by the APC to consolidate support in Edo Central and secure a win in the forthcoming senatorial election.
