Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the fight against cultism, kidnapping, and all forms of criminal activity in the state. This declaration followed a high-level security meeting held on Wednesday evening at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo met behind closed doors with commanders and senior officials of the Edo State Special Security Squad to assess progress and strategize on strengthening security measures across the state.
In attendance were Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Musa Ikhilor; Executive Member of the Special Security Squad, Comrade Ameloemen Idemudia Noah; and other key security stakeholders.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, the Governor emphasized the importance of the engagement, describing it as “very useful” in addressing the state’s pressing security concerns.
“We had a very useful meeting focused on intensifying the fight against cultism and kidnapping,” Governor Okpebholo said. “Our goal is to ensure Edo State remains safe for everyone and conducive for economic growth. That was the essence of today’s strategic session.”
Since the inauguration of the Special Security Squad, made up of operatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local hunters, vigilantes, and even repentant cultists, Edo State has witnessed a notable reduction in violent crimes.
The Governor noted that several hotspots across the state have already been identified and raided, resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects and cult leaders. These actions, he said, have helped restore calm in previously volatile areas, particularly in Benin City.
The Okpebholo-led administration continues to prioritize security, promising not to relent until the state is completely free of the threats posed by cult-related violence and kidnapping.
