Gov Okpebholo Announces Major Restructuring of Edo APC as Defections Surge

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has revealed plans for a major restructuring of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to accommodate the increasing wave of defectors joining the party.

The governor made the announcement over the weekend during the campaign tour of APC candidate Joe Ikpea in Esan West Local Government Area, ahead of the Edo Central Senatorial By-election scheduled for next Saturday.

During the tour, Governor Okpebholo visited Ogwa, Ujogba (Wards 1 and 2), and Illeh (Ward 10), where he formally welcomed a large number of defectors into the party.

“When I promised Mr. President 2.5 million votes, somebody asked me where I was going to get it. But you can see it happening already,” the governor said. “Today, the number of people I have received as decampees into APC is more than the number that was there before now.”

He added that the influx of new members has made it necessary to “redefine and reposition” the party’s structure. “We will hold a meeting of decampees to restrategize, solidify our base, and ensure the party is strong enough to carry everybody along,” he stated.

Governor Okpebholo was accompanied by top APC leaders, including the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.; Edo Central Senatorial leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); and APC State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, among others.

He urged party members to remain united and committed, assuring them that his administration will continue to strengthen APC’s grassroots structures to secure future electoral victories.
