Francis Uzoho Reinstated as Super Eagles First-Choice Goalkeeper

Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has confirmed Francis Uzoho as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, following the current inactivity of Stanley Nwabali.

Uzoho, who plays for Cypriot First Division side Omonia, had previously served as second-choice during the last Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria secured a third-place finish. Nwabali, meanwhile, is currently without a club after leaving Chippa United, creating uncertainty for his national team role.

Chelle’s decision also reflects his stance on Maduka Okoye of Udinese Calcio, who reportedly declined a call-up after being informed he would not be guaranteed the starting position. The coach is believed to have viewed this as a challenge to team authority.

Uzoho will compete for the position with Arthur Okonkwo of Wrexham AFC, who recently switched his international allegiance from England to Nigeria. Okonkwo is eligible for friendly matches immediately but must obtain FIFA clearance before featuring in competitive games, including upcoming AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.
