World football governing body FIFA has sanctioned both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Congolese Football Association following disciplinary incidents during the African playoff final for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
However, FIFA did not address Nigeria’s protest against DR Congo national football team over allegations of fielding ineligible players during the match.
According to FIFA’s disciplinary report, both football bodies were found guilty of separate infractions during the encounter played on November 16, 2025, in Morocco. Nigeria was penalised for breaches relating to order and security, specifically the throwing of objects by spectators, an offence under Articles 17 and 17.2.b of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. The NFF was consequently fined 1,000 Swiss Francs.
Meanwhile, preparations for upcoming international fixtures have seen a change in venue for a four-nation invitational tournament involving Nigeria national football team.
The Jordan Football Association confirmed that the competition, initially scheduled to take place in Amman, will now be held in Antalya, Turkey, due to regional security concerns and movement restrictions.
The tournament will feature Jordan, Iran, Nigeria, and Costa Rica. Jordan will face Costa Rica on March 27, while Nigeria will take on Iran the same day. Four days later, Nigeria will play Jordan, with Iran facing Costa Rica in the other fixture.
The tournament coincides with ongoing inter-continental playoff activities, as Nigeria continues to push its complaint before FIFA regarding DR Congo’s alleged use of ineligible players during the qualifiers.
