FG Approves New Industrial Policy to Curb Strikes, Withdraws Controversial Circular

In a bold move to address recurring industrial actions across the country, the Federal Government has approved a comprehensive National Industrial Relations Policy aimed at promoting labour stability and reducing the frequency of strikes.

The approval was granted during this week’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the new policy is designed to encourage effective communication and cooperation between the government, employers, and workers.

“This policy will ensure a more stable industrial atmosphere and reduce the appeal of strike actions by creating a framework for peaceful resolution of disputes,” Idris said.

In a related development, the government has withdrawn a controversial circular previously issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, which had caused widespread dissatisfaction among health workers, particularly nurses.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi, is scheduled to meet with leaders of the nurses’ union in the coming days to listen to their grievances and begin negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting resolution.

The government’s latest steps are seen as part of a broader strategy to improve industrial harmony and restore confidence in the nation’s labour relations system.
