The Federal Government has officially established 16 years as the minimum age for admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the opening session of the 2025 Policy Meeting organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa stated that the age benchmark is designed to ensure a balance between students’ cognitive maturity and academic readiness. He emphasized that the policy is compulsory and non-negotiable.
He further warned that any institution head involved in admission malpractice or fraud would be held accountable and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
