Edo State Clinches Double Victory at South South Under-17 Cricket Qualifier

Team Edo has continued to assert its dominance in age-grade cricket, emerging as overall champions in both the male and female categories at the South South Under-17 Cricket Qualifier.

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Enabulele, praised the young athletes for their outstanding performance. Through his media aide, Wilson Edoko, Enabulele described the feat as a reflection of the state’s strategic investment in grassroots sports, noting that winning both categories highlights the strong structure, quality preparation, and competitive spirit that define Edo athletes.

The girls’ team secured a commanding 66-run victory over Akwa Ibom, with Rejoice Emonena delivering an exceptional performance, while the boys’ team demonstrated resilience against Delta State, with Miracle Emonena’s bowling showcasing focus and excellence.

Enabulele also commended the coaching staff and technical officials for their discipline and tactical expertise, emphasizing that their dedication helps maintain Edo’s reputation as a powerhouse in emerging sports. He credited Governor Monday Okpebholo’s support and assured that the Sports Commission would continue providing facilities and technical backing to keep Team Edo at the forefront of regional competitions.
