Edo Sports Boss Welcomes Cricket Coaches, Backs World-Class Facility Plans

In a positive stride for cricket development in Edo State, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Enabulele, on Thursday welcomed the coaching crew of the state’s cricket team during a courtesy visit to his office in Benin City.

Leading the delegation was Head Coach Nemedi Christopher, accompanied by Coach and Manager Theophilus Ibeombe, who explained that the visit was aimed at discussing plans to establish a world-class cricket facility in the state—one capable of hosting international tournaments.

During the visit, three coaches who recently completed the ICC coaching course in Abuja were formally introduced. The program is tailored to enhance coaching standards and technical expertise. The newly certified coaches presented were:

  • Marvellous Oyivwi (U-15 Boys Coach)
  • Afani Ali (U-17 Girls Coach)
  • Ikponmwen Osamudiamen (U-15 Girls Coach)

In a statement issued by his Media Officer, Wilson Edoko, Hon. Enabulele applauded the team’s remarkable showing at the recent Gateway Games in Abeokuta, where Edo’s male and female cricket squads clinched five out of six available gold medals.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s strong support for the cricket team, particularly as they gear up for the National Youth Games scheduled for August in Asaba.
