The Edo State Government’s Special Security Squad, Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists, over the weekend carried out a coordinated “Operation Show of Force” across Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts to reinforce its presence and deter criminal activities.
The action, which took place in key locations including Uromi, Ekpoma, Irrua, Warake, Iyeki Road, Angle 90, and Auchi Polytechnic, underscored Governor Monday Okpebholo’s determination to rid the State of cultism, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
Coordinator of the Squad, Ameloemen Idemudia Noah, issued a stern warning to criminal elements planning to disrupt the August 16, 2025 Senatorial and House of Representatives by-elections, stressing that security agencies will be fully mobilized to prevent violence and ensure offenders face justice.
“We have credible intelligence that some cultists are mobilizing to cause chaos during and after the elections. This is not about politics; it’s about protecting Edo people. Parents must warn their wards not to be used by criminal-minded individuals,” Noah said.
In Edo Central, the Squad’s presence was felt in strategic areas, including the Ojuromi Modern Market in Uromi, while in Edo North, operatives visited Auchi Polytechnic and engaged with its Chief Security Officer.
Responding to viral reports of alleged gunfire at Auchi Polytechnic’s main gate on August 6, Noah clarified that investigations revealed no such incident. He explained that the campus was peaceful during the visit, though police had earlier arrested suspected cultists attempting to disrupt student graduation celebrations.
Dr. (Mrs.) Angela Egele, Director of Public Relations at Auchi Polytechnic, also dismissed the social media claims, describing them as “fabricated” and reaffirming the institution’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism.
“The graduation was peaceful, with no casualties and no cult-related disturbances. We have maintained a cult-free campus for years and will continue to do so,” she stated, pledging the institution’s full support for the State Government’s security drive.
The “Operation Show of Force” is expected to continue in other parts of the State in the coming weeks as authorities intensify efforts to maintain law and order.
