The Edo State Special Security Squad has arrested several suspected cult leaders and members in Evboutubu, Benin City, in a renewed crackdown aimed at restoring peace and safety across the state.
The operation, code-named “Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists”, was launched by Governor Monday Okpebholo to combat rising insecurity in Edo State.
According to a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, intelligence provided by two previously arrested cult suspects led security operatives to multiple hideouts where weapons and other dangerous items were recovered.
The coordinated raid was carried out in Egor Local Government Area by a joint team comprising the Military, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local hunters, vigilantes, and repentant cultists, alongside other key stakeholders.
